Private Freight Rail

KCC was awarded a private freight rail contract to a highly competitive bid for a new loop track that is to help alleviate container movement from the Port.

Background

The project consisted of site work and 2 new bridges, for the creation of a connector that will allow trains to enter the Rail Yard from its point of origin, without reversing. The selection was based on the lowest-technically qualified evaluation criteria. This was a vital and much anticipated intermodal infrastructure project that has been in planning for over a decade. given the multi-agency stakeholders and approvals.

Project Highlights

The scope of work for the project consists of:

  • Land clearing and making improvements to the access road in order to begin excavation, surcharging removal of surcharging, and revegetation.
  • Removal and replacement of 75,000 CY of unsuitable soils and Earthwork.
  • Piezometers & Surcharge Settlement Monitoring.
  • Site preparation for the Loop Track undercut areas, sheet pile installation, soil stockpiling on-site, and backfilling.
  • 65,000 SF of Permanent Sheet Piles.
  • 10,000 LF of new Security Fence and access Gate.
  • Test Pile Program involving both 275 Ton Static Load Tests and Uplift Tests for the new bridge foundations.
  • Fabricate and Erect 300 Tons of Structural Steel for Two, Multispan Structural Steel Railroad Bridges supported on 94 each, 18” diameter Pipe Piles driven to depth of 130 feet below grade.
  • Placement and Grading of 14,000 Tons of Subballast and Ballast
  • KCC was responsible for all QA/AC.
